Recurrent orbital myositis as an extra-intestinal manifestation of Crohn's disease.

چکیده
Extra-intestinal manifestations (EIM) of Crohn's disease (CD) affect up to 35% of patients and the presence of one EIM appears to be a predisposing factor for others.1 Orbital myositis (OM) is a subgroup of idiopathic orbital inflammatory syndrome involving one or more extra-ocular muscles and is described as a very rare EIM of CD.2 We present the case of a 55-year-old woman, with Crohn's colitis since 1995, stricturing behavior, with type 2 arthropathy. She underwent a sigmoidectomy in 2004 for a 7-cm stenosis (histology of the surgical piece compatible with Crohn's stenosis). She was treated with sulfasalazine and had no history of steroid therapy or other immunosuppressant therapy. Recurrent joint symptoms were difficult to control.

Adalimumab for orbital myositis in a patient with Crohn’s disease who discontinued infliximab: a case report and review of the literature
BACKGROUND Orbital myositis is a rare extra-intestinal manifestation of inflammatory bowel disease. Seventeen cases of Crohn's disease associated orbital myositis and 3 cases of ulcerative colitis associated orbital myositis have been reported in the published literature since 1970. We report the use of adalimumab (Abbott, Canada, Inc.) for orbital myositis in a patient with Crohn's disease who...
متن کاملRecurrent posterior scleritis and orbital myositis as extra-intestinal manifestations of Crohn's disease: Case report and systematic literature review.
BACKGROUND Ocular episcleritis and uveitis are well-recognised extra-intestinal manifestations of Crohn's disease. Orbital myositis is rare: to our knowledge it has been associated with Crohn's disease in thirteen cases. Posterior scleritis, orbital myositis and Crohn's disease have been reported as coexisting in only two cases. METHODS AND RESULTS We describe a third case, that of a 31-year ...
متن کاملA case of orbital myositis preceding the intestinal symptoms of Crohn's disease.
Muscle involvement is a rare extraintestinal manifestation of Crohn's disease (CD). It can be related either to therapy or to disease related myositis or to a coexistent autoimmune disorder affecting the muscle.1 Colonic disease is more often associated with the myopathy than is small bowel involvement alone and precedes the development of myositis in most cases. We present the case of a 35-yea...
متن کاملPulmonary necrobiotic nodules in Crohn's disease: a rare extra-intestinal manifestation.
Pulmonary necrobiotic nodules represent a rare extra-intestinal manifestation of Crohn's disease. Histologically, they are composed of sterile aggregates of inflammatory cells with necrosis. The differential diagnosis is broad, and exclusion of infectious etiologies is mandatory before starting immunosuppressive therapy. Here, we present the fifth reported case of pulmonary necrobiotic nodules ...
متن کاملOrbital Inflammatory Complications of Crohn’s Disease: A Rare Case Series
Orbital inflammatory disease is a rare ophthalmic manifestation of Crohn's disease. Inflammation is characteristically nonspecific, involving one or multiple structures of the orbit. Mechanisms of disease and optimal methods of treatment are poorly understood. The aim of this report is to present 3 cases of orbital involvement in Crohn's disease. A retrospective case note review of patients wit...
